A week ago one my roommate bought the FAN heater for heating the laundry when it rains outside and it’s necessary to leave the cloth rack inside the house.

I red his power and it is 2000watts so 2KW

how much does it costs per month?

I can make two assumptions:

the cost of the electric energy in Ireland is 0.20 euro per KW/H

for drying the laundry it’s necessary to keep it on for 1 hour per day because of more people dry the laundry and one set of laundry needs more than two days to get dried.

Well my calculus is

0.20 KW/H *2KW (the fan is two kilowatts)=0.40 eur/H

Keeping the fan on for just one hour requires 0.40 eur.

if it works one hour per day it will cost

0.40 eur/h * 1h/day* 30day/month=0.40*30=12 eur per month

Why does the electric fan require 2000kw for working fine?

Because the heating elements are resistors and they require a lot of power for working fine producing the heat through the joule effect for converting the electronic movement in heat like the ovens.

After discovering that the energy is due to the movement of the electrons the question is: “How can I use this energy?”

there are a lot of electronic components.

The first one is a resistor:

A resistor is a passive two-terminal electrical component that implements electrical resistance as a circuit element. Resistors act to reduce current flow, and, at the same time, act to lower voltage levels within circuits. [Wikipedia]

Resistor has two tasks:

keeps the current in the defined range (minimum, maximum) . This is very useful to avoid that strong currents damages delicates electronic components

Converts the current into heat. It is useful for building ovens

The second Electronic component is a Diode

Diode is a two-terminal electronic component with asymmetric conductance; it has low (ideally zero) resistance to current in one direction, and high (ideally infinite) resistance in the other.

The most commonly function of a diode is to allow an electric current to pass in one direction (called the diode’s forward direction), while blocking current in the opposite direction (the reverse direction). [Wikipedia]

The diode is made of a simple PN junction:

when you make in contact two conductors: one doped with electrons and the other one doped with protons(holes) you create a PN Junction.

In this junction is allowed the current in only one direction: from the P-conductor to the N-conductor because of the barrier.

The diode has many purposes:

Protecting an electronic reverse priority

LED (Light emitting diode) that emits light when it is activated

An electric battery is a device consisting of one or more electrochemical cells that convert stored chemical energy into electrical energy. Each cell contains a positive terminal, or cathode, and a negative terminal, or anode. Electrolytes allow ions to move between the electrodes and terminals, which allow current to flow out of the battery to work.

If you introduce zinc foil in a solution of copper sulphate the solution becomes more clear and the foil becomes more black, this is a redox reaction because the copper is reduced and it is deposited on the zinc that is oxidized and makes ions Zn++.

This chemistry phenome to make energy is used by the daniell battery:

When you put zinc bar in a sulphate of zinc, some atoms of zinc are detached from the bar and produce electrons extern of the metal.

When you put copper bar in a sulphate of copper some positive ions of the solution are deposited on metal.

If you connect this two systems one with the other the electrons made of the zinc bar are moved to the copper bar and this produces electric energy.

oxidation

Zn —-> Zn<sup>2+</sup> + 2e

The zinc bar is the anode (negative pole) and the copper bar is the cathode (positive pole). To make both the solutions neutral (without excess of positive or negative ions) it is necessary to connect each the solutions with a “salt bridge” made by KCL.

At the end of this process the zinc is oxidized and probable it’s dissolved and the copper is reduced.

If this chemical process is reversible you can recharge the battery:

During charging, the positive active material is oxidized, producing electrons, and the negative material is reduced, consuming electrons. These electrons constitute the current flow in the external circuit. The electrolyte may serve as a simple buffer for internal ion flow between the electrodes, as in lithium-ion and nickel-cadmium cells, or it may be an active participant in the electrochemical reaction, as in lead acid cells.

Electric energy is made of a movement of any electrons from the conductor with more potential energy to the conductor with less potential energy that are both connected.

When you rub two amber bar with fur and put one of them near the other. You can see one bar reject the other.

When you rub a glass bar with silk and a amber bar with fur you put one of them near the other. You can see these bars are attracted.

This is because each object in the universe is made of many atoms and each atom is made of protons (positive charges), electrons (negative charges), neutrons (neutral charges)

In normal state a general object have the same number of protons and electrons but when you rub an object with another the external charges of one of them is moved to the other and vice versa and then the number of the electrons is not homogenous and it is electrified.

The material with excess of the charge (such as electrons) makes an electric field that produces some electrostatic forces with the other object placed closed to him, these are attractive if both material have the same excess of the charge or repulsive in the other way.

Amber has a negative polarization, Glass has a positive polarization for this reason they are rejected.

The movement of the electrons produces electricity that is the variation of the electric charge in the time: I=dq/dt but how is possible to move these electrons?

To make the movement of electrons is enough that there is a connection between one conductor that has more electrons than protons and one conductor with more protons that electrons.

In this case the state of the conductor that is made by the union of two precedent conductors is instable and it has a potential difference between the conductor with excess and electrons and the conductor of excess of protons.

The potential difference causes the movement of electrons from the conductor that has them in excess to the other and there is electricity. These electrons are moved until there is an homogeneous distribution of them in each part of the material.

The generator has always a not homogeneous distribution of electrons and is always instable for this reason it produces always energy.

Summary:

generator causes the different distribution of electrons between two conductors (in one material they are in excess in the other material they are in minority)

this different distribution causes a potential difference between the conductor with excess of electrons and the other. This potential difference is measured in volt.

This causes the movement of the electrons from the conductor with excess of electrons to the other and produces the electric current

At the end of the movement of the electrons there is a uniform distribution of electrons in both the conductor and there is not movement of electrons (current)

Then the generator reverses the polarity and this causes a difference of distribution of electrons and this cycle is repeated

If you approach the compass at a thread with electricity you can see that the needle is moved because electricity generates a magnetic field because electric field and magnetic field are related.

The electricity used in our houses is provided by power plants, there are three types of them: hydroelectric, thermoelectric, nuclear, all of them perform a lot of transformation that causes the movement of a turbine that provide a mechanics energy that is converted into Electricity.

For example in hydroelectric power plant the water flows, this makes the movement of a special wheel that makes a kinetics energy like the dynamo of a bike.

Below there is an example of AC generator that converts mechanical energy to alternate current

Electronics is the part of the physics and technology on the emission and propagation of electrons in a vacuum or in matter.

More specifically, the electronics is the set of knowledge and theoretical methodologies and practices used for the design and implementation of systems and hardware equipment that can process signals in the form of physical quantities , often containing information for various types of applications.

The electronic circuits consist of electronic components , active and passive, connected to means of wires or conductive paths , usually metal , through which circulate electric currents.

From the theoretical point of view the electronic adopts both the laws of classical electromagnetism and electrical both quantum mechanics that is the basis of semiconductor technology. They are also used mathematical methods developed by systems theory and from the algebra of Boole.

The active electronic components, ie, diodes and transistors, are covered by a comprehensive theoretical treatment and it is possible to predict the behaviour under all conditions; Also some types of circuits, such as low-power linear amplifiers, operational amplifiers and oscillators, have a basic theory that can guide the designer in part, but in general the design of a new circuit is a job that needs to combine theory and creativity.

The electronics is divided into two areas:

analogue electronics, regard about analogue signals, that vary in time in a continuous manner, and that in principle could take any value at any given instant of time (for example, voices, sounds, light intensity etc..): typical operations performed on these signals are the amplification, modulation, mixing, filtering.

digital electronics, is that instead of electrical signals that can assume only certain values “legitimate” voltage, conventionally two values using the binary system, “high” or “low” that are associated with the logical values ”true “and” false “. In this case it refers to binary signals which are typically subjected to Boolean logic operations such as AND, the OR, the NOT so. This is precisely the electronics industry that has enabled the birth and development of modern electronic computer.
